Fantanstic at Fifty

Life is not to be taken for granted. Some good people never make it to be 10 years old. Some bad people easily hit 90 years of age. We have no room to judge who is good or who is bad. However, we can all be grateful for each new year we experience.

Rita reached out to me after seeing images I had taken for a 45th Birthday Session. I was very elated she found my work worthy of wanting to have MoSeawell Photography create memories for her 50th birthday. During our consulation, it warmed my heart to learn that images from her session would be turned into wall art, which would stand as heirlooms for her son, Caleb, and others to see now and for years to come. I thought it was very cool that the Moncks Corner native, who came to Columbia to attend Benedict College, was reaching the fantanstic age of 50 in great shape. All days are special but birthdays tend to have an extra shine to it. I asked RIta what she was going to do for her birthday & she mentioned that she would chilling in Hilton Head, SC, while enjoying fine dining, the beach, family and friends. Loved it!

So from there … it was time to get moving. We started off with emphasis on “50” …

Rita doned a white jumpsuit with jewelry that seamlessly matched her balloons. We made the WHITE WOBBLE and the PINK POP!!! Shout out to the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

After a wardrobe changed, Rita appeared wearing jeans and a sheer top. Fancy!!! Don’t believe me? Here she is in the flesh …

BAMMMM! Another successful session. The beauty of my job is learning more about my new clients. It was great knowing of Rita’s hobbies which includes traveling, good food, art, reading , and shopping. It was fun hanging out with a fellow June baby with a great personality. It was beyond delightful to help a hardworking Tech Expert from Verizon Wireless have Fantanstic customer service before hitting Fifty. Can you hear me now?!?

Well, guess this is where I get off.  Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #moseawell #clickclique #beEZpeace

CHAPTER 49: Against All Odds

As a Entrepeneur, one of the greatest joys is to have individuals who want you to service them. Even sweeter is to have a past client reach out to you. That action tells you that (1) you have earned their trust and (2) you provided them with a product they were pleased with. When Lenny reached out to me mid March, I got goose bumps because we have history.

Lenny and I attended the same high school: the great Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. I am a few years younger than him but I remember the cool, city-acting guy from Brooklyn, New York. I am not sure if we ever had any conversations while we attended thigh school but his style was one you would never forget. SMOOTH! He went on to matriculate at Claflin University, receiving two college degrees in 3 years (Bachelors in Marketing Administration & Masters in Business Administration). Over the years after leaving OW, he married a childhood friend of mine. I will never forget the day she called me & they invited me into their home to capture images of the new family addition. As a Photographer, moments like that are where you put heavy emphasis on your gift to ensure you tell the story. For years to come, I was called back to further photograph the LAWRENCE FAMILY. Heck, I even shot his 40th Birthday party. Very cool but when I spoke to Lenny only (no wife or son) this time, the stakes were raised.

Instead of traveling out of town, going to eat at his favorite restaurant (Hyman’s) or even planning a big celebration with friends, Mr. Lawrence decided to treat himself with a session to capture the great memories into Chapter 49 of his life. WHOAH! I take no sessions for granted and this really made me smile. This Dude is veryyyy popular and well connected. Granted I had snapped many memories of his son’s parties, he could have called anyone to make his vision come true. I appreciate his loyalty. I am not surprised one bit he has been gainfully employed with the in-home health profession and the family business for many years. But our moment in the sun was about HIM. Not the family. Not the clients he services. Not even the persons he has known for 48+ years. So, off we went …

We settled in for a few serious moments, which gave him a chance to reflect on past ups and his downs.

We concluded the session with some NEW YORK FLAVOR in SOUTH CAROLINA.

I must say the years have been favorable to Lenny. Not only is he a successful college graduate (Cum Laude & Magna Cum Laude), a family man and a lover of fashion, he is a child of God. During our session, he expressed how all of his life he wanted to be the driver of his own destination. With a few tricks up his sleeve and experience on his side, I think 2021 is going to be one we see greater things from him. He has heard, “He’s never going to finish high school!” … “He’s going to jail before his 21st birthday!” … “He won’t live pass 25 years old!” My money is on Leonard Dwight (or simply Lenny) will contine to rise AGAINST ALL ODDS.

I guess this is where I get off.  Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #moseawell #clickclique #beEZpeace

Next Phase of Life

Time flies & before you know it, you will be leaving one phase of life for another phase. Rather you be a city slicker or a country boy, you must embrace the paths you travel. My COUNTRY BOY PATH led me to South Carolina State University and I met a CITY SLICKER in Wayne Montgomery.

Born and raised in Queens, NY, Wayne moved down south and graduated from Kingstree Senior High. We met as freshmen and were very cordial to each other while attending the greatest university on earth. Upon graduation, it was time to transition to our next phase of life. Wayne went on to a higher calling in law enforcement. After 24 years of excelling in the State of South Carolina, he is currently an Investigator in the Violent Crimes Unit for the Columbia Police Department. I am huge fan of show, The First 48 & I find Wayne’s job intriguing. I don’t want the job but I think it is cool to know someone who is in the profession. After chatting with Wayne, it is obvious he thinks it is cool too but doesn’t want to do it forever. He plans on hanging up the badge in 2022. But what next?

Well, Wayne has always been a fairly level headed guy. As we were taught at SCSU, an alternative plan is always a must. Montgomery plans to transition into Real Estate and own/operate a Private Investigation Firm. The guy is on another level and already has got the wheels turning with his Real Estate Business. You can see more at Southern Shores Real Estate Group. I am not one to stop a Bulldog from excelling. It is my job to help out and push him higher. Here are a few images we captured during his branding session …

Pleased is what we were, upon leaving our session. I am honored my college classmate called me to help reach the next phase of life, in style.

I guess this is where I get off.  Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #moseawell #clickclique #beEZpeace

… and then came 2021!

2020 was not an ideal year for an abundance of folks and reasons. Although there were some high points, there were some untimely deaths and the arrival of a pandemic. Yes, a pandemic ya’ll. However, we made it through. And then came 2021!

At the conclusion of last year, Jacquetta and I devised a plan to bring in the new year with power and purpose. Being that she is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. and even prouder graduate of the Historical Black College and University (HBCU) of Benedict University, we felt that it would be wise to circle her session around with some color(s) that offered some smoothness and popage. After our consultation, we decided to grab the Nikon and take it to the streets of Columbia. Since we couldn’t forget that we’re in pandemic, it only made sense to factor in a mask for an opening shot

Creative, right?!? Mask image: done!!! Now, it was time to get the official part of the Birthday Session started. Here are a few images that spoke to the magic we made:

Yessss. Yesss. The pictures are tops in my books and “The Doctor” slaughtered the session. I am not sure when but Jessica Simpson, PoshMark and Carlos Santana needs to pay my client a few coins for making their gear have some life. We were able to make images that speaks to her spirit, success, smartness, and strength. Having known her for nearly half of my life, it didn’t seem like work make her vision come to life. Hats off to “The Doctor” .. the AKA. Speaking of AKA, today (January 20, 2021) marks the day we shout out Attorney Kamala Devi Harris for becoming the first woman (and woman of color) to become the Vice President of the United States of America. Beyond exciting for the Howard graduate and the great things we know she will do. Heck, why not drop another photo in her honor …

Happy January, Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated!!!!

.. and from Beautiful Bride to Marvelous Mommy

The say that TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE!  It seemed like just a few months ago when I shot bridal portraits for my cousin, Lauren.   Well, actually it was almost 3 years ago but who is counting?!?  I thought she would wait for me to published in Essence or Black Enterprise before we shot images again.  Silly me!  Looking back on that blog (From Brown Baby to Beautiful Bride), I was so happy for her.  Now, here she was, standing before me as a married graduate of Winthrop University.    This time, she was with her husband, Ben, a fellow Winthrop Eagle.  She looked a little different from the last time I had seen her in person.  Lauren was with child!

The session started very smoothly. I asked the PARENTS-TO-BE to sit and get comfortable, as I prepared my lighting.  It was time to put the Nikon to work. As they got comfy, I shot some candid images of them enjoying the South Carolina pre-summer air.
Lauren's Maternity-3

Once they were set and I was in place, we got a quick image of the couple (and the bundle of joy).

Lauren's Maternity-10

Not to be selfish and throw Cousin Ben away but this session was all about Lauren.  We slowly helped her up (she is in great shape: I’m just being dramatic) and she took position in front of a flower bed.  Lauren is a Nutritionist/Lactation Counselor.  Therefore, she has fitness, well-being and youth on her side. 🙂 With her dress flowing and the sun shining, the beauty of her maternalness was on full display.

Lauren's Maternity-13

I am a caring photographer.  So it wasn’t uncommon for me to allow the mother to catch a seat and hold her bundle of joy.  I managed to steal a moment of her caressing her baby.  A mother & her baby: what a combination to behold!!!

Lauren's Maternity-21

Not only am I a caring photographer but I am an inclusive photographer.  Lauren and I had made some great memories.  I felt that it was time to get “Dad” back into the scene.  An Interal Auditor by trade, the image incapitulates Ben auditing the happiness of Lauren enjoying the day with him and the “little” one. Lauren's Maternity-25

As we moved toward the end of the session, we paused to allow Ben a chance to further appreciate the mother of his child in the form of an embrace and kiss on the forehead.
Lauren's Maternity-30

Quick to arrive and quick to leave, it was time to send my clients off on their way.  They had driven in from the city of Rock Hill to spend some precious moments with me.  Grateful for the opportunity, we ended our time together with one final shot of the three of them.  World, I present to you Ben, Lauren and Brayden Ndubuisi Ikenegbu!

Lauren's Maternity-48

how did THAT work out for you?!?

Special shout to all of the fathers that celebrate their day on this past Sunday.  I hope you had a great Father’s Day weekend and you feel more encouraged to do more than you have done already. We can always do more and make the world a better place to be.

Welp, that wraps up the latest blog.  I’ve been missing for a few but I’mmmm back.    Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #beEZpeace

Not 1, Not 2, Not … but 58 Years of Bliss!!!

For a whopping $0.31, a gallon of gas was yours.  There was a baby boy born that went onto become the 44th president of the United States, while answering to the name of Barack.  A young Seward found it not a crime to make a stunning Barbara his wife.  The year was 1961 and life was good in Hemingway, South Carolina.

From that union, life was greater than great.  Seward, a high school principal/chemistry teacher played golf in his free time and accepted the additional role of Daddy, over the following years.

MSP_6352

A Licensed Practical Nurse, Barbara thrusted herself into church/community service and became the ideal mother for little ones.

MSP_6308

Time was on their side and God allowed the couple to see life take form in 5 children: D’Ette Weaver, Adreane Grant, Bernita Stuckey, Seward Weaver, Jr. and Sherwood Weaver, Sr.

MSP_6518

Although Sherwood passed at an early age, his life is still cherished and the family bond remains strong.

MSP_6496

My session with the family was nothing short of fun.  Seeing the chemistry of the couple was great after being together over 50 years!  They fed off of each other for energy and admiration.

I WEAVEDd out some astonishing pictures while capturing the Weavers.    Grateful to have snapped the pre-anniversary photos, the couple was quite funny when getting their “5” and “8” together.

Yeah, they had it right but I scripted it to appear even more exciting!  Here is a link to the other magic that we made: Weaver’s Session.

Little Did I Know!!!

1994 was a great year but wow, little did I know! Here I was excited about my first job at U.P.S. while a student at South Carolina State University, 30 minutes up I-26, 44 ladies of the working class had bigger goals. Although my favorite artist, Mary J. Blige, had dropped “My Life“, little did I like that there was a group of ladies making some astonishing graduation level noise. True I bought my first car, a 1994 Honda Accord EX Coupe, that year same group of women were on the move uniting likeminded females to handle a major task.

44 members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated went through the necessary hoops and horizons to have the second chapter created in the Columbia Metropolitan area. The name approved was the Richland County Alumnae Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. They have become affectionately called ‘”RCA.”

On April 27, 2019, a number of those charter members were joined with current RCA members, national DST officers, past RCA members and other Deltas (and me) to celebrate 25 years of Sisterhood, Scholarship & Service at their Silver Anniversary Celebration Brunch.

It was a grand event and I was glad to have been chosen to photograph the event. I did my research on Dr. Bertha Maxwell Roddey.

I now know why she was held in such high regard like the GODMOTHER. An amazing lady!!!

Anywho, here is what I saw …

… and that is just a taste. Here is a link to the other images: RCA 25th Anniversary! It was good to see so many friends/old co-workers/fellow alums/church members/associates celebrate a great occasion. I always felt that MARY’S JOINT (a song off of Mary J. Blige’s album) was the dopest female thing to happen in 1994 but the Deltas making strides to better tomorrow’s leaders and service the community gives MJB some serious competition.

WOOD the natural fit work for you???

All too often, there is a lot emphasis placed on the word “one.” In sports, we hear, “We are number one!” It is common to listen to someone in education to ask a failing child to try “One more time.” In fashion, stores will tell the shoppers that “one size fits all.”

The company of WOODBURY COLLECTION feels that men’s fashion should flow away from the misnomer. Managed by Wayne Woodbury and Andre Watson, the team believes that a suit should not be the standard “pull from the rack” but it should be the extraordinary “perfect fit for the client.” Based in Charlotte, NC, Woodbury & Watson boaster the motto of, “Your Fit. Your Style.” Since 2009, the organization has outfitted clients in numerous east coast cities that range from Queens, New York to Miami, Florida.

Here are a few images of the dynamic duo …

The men were captured below consulting with past clients on their upcoming wardrobe additions

I read a quote that said, “A well-tailored suit is to women what lingerie is to men.” I can’t speak for women nor can I speak for other men, but I place pride into my suits. I have found it not robbery to attain a slice of the Woodbury Collection. Listed below is a snapshot of the author of this blog in his chosen attire.

From the hugeness of my kool-aid smile, one can see that I am beyond pleased with my purchase. I am one that wants to support like minded entrepreneurs and look nice at the same time. Hopefully you feel the same. But the question is WOOD the natural fit work for you??? If so, reach out to Wayne & Dre.

The Gospel of John gone Wild

When you hear the name of John, it is easy to equate it to the GOSPEL OF JOHN.  When you hear the word Gospel spoken, it is common to think of music.  But where does one’s mind go when they hear the words, “John singing gospel in the Carolinas?”  Puzzling.  Your mind could go to South Carolina or it go to North Carolina.  What if I told you that both are correct and South Carolina was able to craddle both in one day at one time.

South Carolina John (aka John Lakin) and North Carolina John (aka John P. Kee) decided to lend their talents to a local venue while targeting the Millenials.  Mission: provide a concert primarily to the young men and women between the age of 18-32, to let them know that Millennial Worship Matters.  Lakin pulled from his talented group of friends and packed the Brookland Baptist Church with a worship service that left attendees (young and old) happy to had been in the place.  The lineup was powerful with the talent of Mike Brown and F.O.C.U.S., Regina Skeeters, Kenny Smith, Derrick Bull and Remnant, Kimberly Sumter and Big Redd.  People came from near and far and then Lakin started the house to rocking …

Once the atmosphere was set, Derrick Bull and Remnant brought their “A” game

After the crowd was calmed down from Bull’s singing, Big Redd blessed all with ears.

Oh what a night!  Here are more images from that fantastic night: Click Here.  Whether you were unsure if THERE’S A LILY VALLEY or if you had questions about if JESUS IS REAL, everything fell into place on that night.  Young and old had a great time.  Not only was it evident that Millennial Worship Matters, all in attendance was in agreement that THERE IS NOTHING FINER THAN GOSPEL MUSIC IN THE CAROLINAS.

Never Shall We Forget

Life is an interesting gift from God.  The gift sometimes is sprinkled with rays of sunshine that allows one to feel that nothing could be sweeter.  Often, the gift is tossed with salt and pepper, where one has bright and dark days.  And there are times when life is like looking in a mirror and questions you to say to yourself, “How did I get here” and “Where do I go from here?”

I feel in my heart, that the latter analogy is something that creeps into the mind of individuals that have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  Confused to how the disease enters their bodies and will they survive are common thoughts, from what I’ve heard from many.  In 2008, the Brookland Foundation believed that saluting Breast Cancer Survivors was a noble act.  Their mission was to have a celebratory, recognition program that served as a vehicle to recognize Breast Cancer Survivors.  On October 10, the group held their 10th COLOR PINK GALA

10/10, also known as October 10, was a memorable day in the lives of many.  Lots of hugs were given to survivors.  Many tears were dropped in remembrance of those no longer living.  The proof is in the pictures.  Here is a link to the gallery:  The Color Pink 2018.  All in all, the awareness of Breast Cancer was further amplified.  Prayerfully, there will be a cure one day soon.  Until that time, it is highly suggestive that women (and men) do self-examinations and receive a mammogram.  Early detection is the key and thank you Brookland Foundation for starting the Color Pink Gala.  As the years roll on, NEVER SHALL WE FORGET what you have done.  Snap at you later.
