Fantanstic at Fifty

Life is not to be taken for granted. Some good people never make it to be 10 years old. Some bad people easily hit 90 years of age. We have no room to judge who is good or who is bad. However, we can all be grateful for each new year we experience.

Rita reached out to me after seeing images I had taken for a 45th Birthday Session. I was very elated she found my work worthy of wanting to have MoSeawell Photography create memories for her 50th birthday. During our consulation, it warmed my heart to learn that images from her session would be turned into wall art, which would stand as heirlooms for her son, Caleb, and others to see now and for years to come. I thought it was very cool that the Moncks Corner native, who came to Columbia to attend Benedict College, was reaching the fantanstic age of 50 in great shape. All days are special but birthdays tend to have an extra shine to it. I asked RIta what she was going to do for her birthday & she mentioned that she would chilling in Hilton Head, SC, while enjoying fine dining, the beach, family and friends. Loved it!

So from there … it was time to get moving. We started off with emphasis on “50” …

Rita doned a white jumpsuit with jewelry that seamlessly matched her balloons. We made the WHITE WOBBLE and the PINK POP!!! Shout out to the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

After a wardrobe changed, Rita appeared wearing jeans and a sheer top. Fancy!!! Don’t believe me? Here she is in the flesh …

BAMMMM! Another successful session. The beauty of my job is learning more about my new clients. It was great knowing of Rita’s hobbies which includes traveling, good food, art, reading , and shopping. It was fun hanging out with a fellow June baby with a great personality. It was beyond delightful to help a hardworking Tech Expert from Verizon Wireless have Fantanstic customer service before hitting Fifty. Can you hear me now?!?

Well, guess this is where I get off.  Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #moseawell #clickclique #beEZpeace

CHAPTER 49: Against All Odds

As a Entrepeneur, one of the greatest joys is to have individuals who want you to service them. Even sweeter is to have a past client reach out to you. That action tells you that (1) you have earned their trust and (2) you provided them with a product they were pleased with. When Lenny reached out to me mid March, I got goose bumps because we have history.

Lenny and I attended the same high school: the great Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. I am a few years younger than him but I remember the cool, city-acting guy from Brooklyn, New York. I am not sure if we ever had any conversations while we attended thigh school but his style was one you would never forget. SMOOTH! He went on to matriculate at Claflin University, receiving two college degrees in 3 years (Bachelors in Marketing Administration & Masters in Business Administration). Over the years after leaving OW, he married a childhood friend of mine. I will never forget the day she called me & they invited me into their home to capture images of the new family addition. As a Photographer, moments like that are where you put heavy emphasis on your gift to ensure you tell the story. For years to come, I was called back to further photograph the LAWRENCE FAMILY. Heck, I even shot his 40th Birthday party. Very cool but when I spoke to Lenny only (no wife or son) this time, the stakes were raised.

Instead of traveling out of town, going to eat at his favorite restaurant (Hyman’s) or even planning a big celebration with friends, Mr. Lawrence decided to treat himself with a session to capture the great memories into Chapter 49 of his life. WHOAH! I take no sessions for granted and this really made me smile. This Dude is veryyyy popular and well connected. Granted I had snapped many memories of his son’s parties, he could have called anyone to make his vision come true. I appreciate his loyalty. I am not surprised one bit he has been gainfully employed with the in-home health profession and the family business for many years. But our moment in the sun was about HIM. Not the family. Not the clients he services. Not even the persons he has known for 48+ years. So, off we went …

We settled in for a few serious moments, which gave him a chance to reflect on past ups and his downs.

We concluded the session with some NEW YORK FLAVOR in SOUTH CAROLINA.

I must say the years have been favorable to Lenny. Not only is he a successful college graduate (Cum Laude & Magna Cum Laude), a family man and a lover of fashion, he is a child of God. During our session, he expressed how all of his life he wanted to be the driver of his own destination. With a few tricks up his sleeve and experience on his side, I think 2021 is going to be one we see greater things from him. He has heard, “He’s never going to finish high school!” … “He’s going to jail before his 21st birthday!” … “He won’t live pass 25 years old!” My money is on Leonard Dwight (or simply Lenny) will contine to rise AGAINST ALL ODDS.

I guess this is where I get off.  Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #moseawell #clickclique #beEZpeace

Giving Back for the 32nd Harambee

To attend an HBCU (Historical Black College and University) is a learning experience. The pride and confidence most students receive is insurmountable! Graduates leave their institution of higher learning with nuggets often not received at other schools. They essentially enter into the world and make strides of excellence.

My client, Dr. Jacquetta M. Chatman, is a proud and successful graduate of Benedict College. After leaving Benedict, she went on to attain her Masters in Divergent Learning (Columbia College) and Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership (Nova Southeastern University). She has made tremendous impacts throughout these United States and Benedict College found it was the perfect time for their child to come back home.

For the 32nd Annual Harambee Festival, Dr. Chatman was asked to be the Keynote Speaker for the Black Intelligentsia Series Honor Inductions Program. How cool!!!! I think I was more excited to receive the call to document her speaking engagement than she was excited to be asked to return to her old stomping grounds. All I could think about was hearing of her story of being a college dropout, who returned to school, graduated, became a successful educator and entrepreneur along the way. When she took the stage at Antisdel Chapel, I almost forgot to start taking pictures because I was ready to hear her speech.

Eventually, I got it together and began to do the job I was hired to do. Needless to say, she didn’t disappoint me at all.

Wow. I had no idea she was going to sing to the people!!!! I have heard Dr. Chatman speak many times over the years but this one was a little more special. She was able to pour into her speech a summary of who she is and package it for the students to see she too had been where they sat. She spoke from experience that hard work, dedication and perseverance speaks volumes. Not only does it speaks volumes, it is recognized and makes you Keynote speaker at your alma mater.

I guess this is where I get off.  Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #moseawell #clickclique #beEZpeace

… and then came 2021!

2020 was not an ideal year for an abundance of folks and reasons. Although there were some high points, there were some untimely deaths and the arrival of a pandemic. Yes, a pandemic ya’ll. However, we made it through. And then came 2021!

At the conclusion of last year, Jacquetta and I devised a plan to bring in the new year with power and purpose. Being that she is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. and even prouder graduate of the Historical Black College and University (HBCU) of Benedict University, we felt that it would be wise to circle her session around with some color(s) that offered some smoothness and popage. After our consultation, we decided to grab the Nikon and take it to the streets of Columbia. Since we couldn’t forget that we’re in pandemic, it only made sense to factor in a mask for an opening shot

Creative, right?!? Mask image: done!!! Now, it was time to get the official part of the Birthday Session started. Here are a few images that spoke to the magic we made:

Yessss. Yesss. The pictures are tops in my books and “The Doctor” slaughtered the session. I am not sure when but Jessica Simpson, PoshMark and Carlos Santana needs to pay my client a few coins for making their gear have some life. We were able to make images that speaks to her spirit, success, smartness, and strength. Having known her for nearly half of my life, it didn’t seem like work make her vision come to life. Hats off to “The Doctor” .. the AKA. Speaking of AKA, today (January 20, 2021) marks the day we shout out Attorney Kamala Devi Harris for becoming the first woman (and woman of color) to become the Vice President of the United States of America. Beyond exciting for the Howard graduate and the great things we know she will do. Heck, why not drop another photo in her honor …

Happy January, Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated!!!!

Little Did I Know!!!

1994 was a great year but wow, little did I know! Here I was excited about my first job at U.P.S. while a student at South Carolina State University, 30 minutes up I-26, 44 ladies of the working class had bigger goals. Although my favorite artist, Mary J. Blige, had dropped “My Life“, little did I like that there was a group of ladies making some astonishing graduation level noise. True I bought my first car, a 1994 Honda Accord EX Coupe, that year same group of women were on the move uniting likeminded females to handle a major task.

44 members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated went through the necessary hoops and horizons to have the second chapter created in the Columbia Metropolitan area. The name approved was the Richland County Alumnae Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. They have become affectionately called ‘”RCA.”

On April 27, 2019, a number of those charter members were joined with current RCA members, national DST officers, past RCA members and other Deltas (and me) to celebrate 25 years of Sisterhood, Scholarship & Service at their Silver Anniversary Celebration Brunch.

It was a grand event and I was glad to have been chosen to photograph the event. I did my research on Dr. Bertha Maxwell Roddey.

I now know why she was held in such high regard like the GODMOTHER. An amazing lady!!!

Anywho, here is what I saw …

… and that is just a taste. Here is a link to the other images: RCA 25th Anniversary! It was good to see so many friends/old co-workers/fellow alums/church members/associates celebrate a great occasion. I always felt that MARY’S JOINT (a song off of Mary J. Blige’s album) was the dopest female thing to happen in 1994 but the Deltas making strides to better tomorrow’s leaders and service the community gives MJB some serious competition.

Choose Who You Will Treasure

At some point in time, everyone had a piggy bank. Whether the bank was made of ceramic, plastic or paper, there was no question about your dependence on if the bank could receive your money. Rarely would you put money in & second guess if the pig would steal your change.

Rosalyn , a gradute of the University of South Carolina, contacted me and told me that she had decided for the position South Carolina State Treasurer. Completely in awe, I raffled off a truckload of questions. Instead of answering them all, we agreed to work on them during our pre-campaign session. This would not be our first session, where in I captured images for her prior to receiving the South Atlantic Regional Member of the National Finance Committee for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. So, we met and tried to make things work.  It started with laughter and realizing we needed to be serious …

Eventually, we got it together.  And it was time to get some shots because no one wants a jokester being their Treasurer

Glenn for Treasurer-27

In the midst of changing lenses after a wardrobe change, I was able to catch Rosalyn staring off into space.  Glenn for Treasurer-39

After realizing what I was doing, I was questioned if I was getting images without her permsission

Glenn for Treasurer-40

I confessed and continued with our session.  Before we could wrap, she was greeted by a citizen of the State of South Carolina.   She was able to provide details to what she would be doing as the newly elected Treasurer.Glenn for Treasurer-79

Outstanding time with Rosalyn!  As we approach November, I am very excited to be a part of history.  I am elated to be attached to someone that I have known for over two decades, that is looking to elevate the State of South Carolina to new heights.  If you are reading this, I ask that you keep Rosalyn in mind when you go vote in the November 6 elections.  Remember, WE R BETTER TOGETHER!

how did THAT work out for you?!?

The mission is to keep moving.  Sitting still is never an option.  My weekend started with a run of 11 miles and then it was back to be a responsible contributor to society.  I had the opportunity to take my little Ballerina to Ballet.  Very proud of her, I took my first picture of her in the Ballerina outfit.

Wow!  Time flies and I can’t believe she has gone from crawling to doing funny stuff with her feet.  Interesting.  Very interesting, I say.  Snap at you later. BE EZ. PEACE!!! #moseawell #beEZpeace

And The Beat Goes On

Strong and determined: this girl stood out to me.  Big smile and commanded attention by her actions: this girl stood out to me.  The oldest daughter of parent educators that openedly loves the Lord: this girl stood out to me.

At the conclusion of the 2017-2018 school year, I completed my SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHY SEASON with a Graduation Celebration.  The celebration was for Spring Valley High School Graduate, Reagan Davis.  Reagan is an active member of my church and has always carried herself in a positive manner.  In the fall, she will be attending the University of South Carolina.  Proud of her accomplishments and accolades, I share with you some of the sites from her big day …

Dead Man Walking His Graduation Walk

Graduation is a time that everyone gets excited. Whether it is the graduate, the next door neighbor, an old teacher or the usher at church, graduation time is a joint effort of cheer.  I was extremely excited when John Lakin, III started talking about graduation.  I wasn’t excited because John FINALLY met all his requirements to walk across the stage at Benedict College.  I was excited because John could have been dead, sleeping in his grave after a brief illness and spending time on life support.  #YESlifesupport

In late October/early November, John had arrived back from a mission trip from Jamaica.  While group texting, John told us about how great of a time he had but went on to say that he wasn’t feeling well. After joking around for a while, John admitted himself into Providence Hospital.  The text messages slowed up and eventually they stopped.  I was later told that he was in the hospital on life support.  The usage of the words “life support” and “John” worried me quite heavily.  Already praying for him, it made me pray more.  Here it was a young man that went on a mission trip and doing PRAISE AND WORSHIP with a genuine heart … returns home sick and needing help and ministering to himself.  BUT GOD!  But God saw fit to bring John out of his near death experience and eventually become a candidate for a degree at Benedict.  Needless to say, I was estatic when he told me that we needed to get his cap and gown photos done in preparation for graduation.  My mind (on the low low) crept back to when he couldn’t respond to my texts and now he was about to be in front of my Nikon with that Kool-Aid smile.

The morning of our session, John had Baccalaureate Services.  During that time, he received the Outstanding Senior Award.  After he got his “BLING,” it was time to shoot those cap and gown photos.  And off we went … John Lakin Graduation-1John Lakin Graduation-8John Lakin Graduation-4John Lakin Graduation-6

We decided to survey the campus and pull in some buildings (and other items) of interest for the final product …John Lakin Graduation-16John Lakin Graduation-34John Lakin Graduation-39John Lakin Graduation-46

Time was starting to move and it was time for John to go write another song.  I think he wanted to write the song there during the session …John Lakin Graduation-53

But Ms. Kitty Cat broke up the session.John Lakin Graduation-52

The end!!! Hilarious session with my friend and Praise & Worshipper Leader, from the Brookland Baptist Church.  Here are the other images from that day: John’s Cap & Gown pics.  Not sure what he has up his sleeve now that he has his ‘ploma but I am sure he we will enter into greatness, while WALKING HIS GRADUATION WALK.

You Can Get With This or You Can With That

There comes a time in every young man’s life where he must make a choice in high school.  He must choose if he wants a school ring or finish the year with no bling.  He must choose if he wants to continute his eduation at an institution of higher learning or purse other career opportunities.  He must choose if he wants to parade through the promenade or pump his brakes foregoing the formality.

Justen, son of one of my closest friends (Dr. Jacquetta M. Chatman), made the decision to get formally dressed and attend the promenade (aka PROM) for his high school, Dutch Fork High School.  Once the decision was made to attend, he had three items of contemplation that he had to nail down: (1) who would be his prom date, (2) what would he wear and (3) where would he took pictures.  Insert MoSeawell & question number 3 was answered.  After a consultation over pancakes, we concluded that the stage was set and we should proceed forth with PROM DAY 2018.  Here is an image of the Prom Dude …Chatman Prom 2018-3

Although he was stunning in his Verse 9 bowtie & pocket square combination, the Diesel time piece was an excellent complimenting accessory.  Entering from stage right, he had on his arm the lovely Maya.  Maya commanded attention from the camera with her rose gold fashion display Chatman Prom 2018-18

Justen’s long time friend, Blake, stopped by with his date for a few shots.  Feast your eyes on the FABULOUS FOUR …

And there you have it.  Justen on his way to his senior prom.  Special moment and wonderful choice.  Here is a link to the images from that day: Justen’s Senior Prom . Life presents opportunities that we should experience for ourselves, instead of hearing what others may say.  I read a quote once that summarized my thoughts to my clients for the day, “The purpose of life is live it to taste experience to the utmost to reach out eagerly and without fear for never and richer experiences.”  Amen!

how did THAT work out for you?!?

Wow!  The busyness of last week reminded me of the pre-parent days.  My trigger finger was very active and I loved every moment of it.

The weekend started with a slow 75 run in preparation of an upcoming road race.  Following that great display of style and grace, I was off to my sessions.  Those sessions include time with a family, a senior with their cap & gown, and a local chapter of a sorority.  All times with my clients were great moments that I am excited to share with you.  In order for that to happen, I will need for you to come back.  Come back soon and very soon.  Snap at you later. From Brown Baby to Beautiful Bride

Seconds turn into minutes. Minutes roll into hours. Hours find a creative way to make themselves seen as days. As God has ordained, days are parts of years. It has taken many years that I have watched my cousin, Lauren, grow into the woman she has become. I have witnessed her move around as a newborn but on March 3rd, I saw her blossom as a bride. Lauren’s grandfather and my grandfather were brothers. So for years, our bond has been very eventful. It ranged from household gatherings to cookouts. We have experienced laughs and we have united through tears. One of the greatest moments thus far has been her wedding in Cayce, SC.

Months ago, she asked me if I would take her bridal portrait. I agreed and our next mission was to create magic at her place of choice, The South Carolina State House. Having shot there a few times, my challenge was to create a series that I had never done before. I always feel that “angles” are the key to a flattering image. With camera in hand and family by my side, off we went … Mother and Daughter getting the final touches together before we soared off into CLICK CLIQUE mode …

Lauren Bridal-1

In this shot, the bride-to-be is posing while staring off into the distance.  I think some folks were taking pics of her taking pictures.  lol.

Lauren Bridal-47

This photo embodies the beauty of seasons.  One of my favorite images that shows the bride being backlit with a nice, compressed background.  Oh how the beautiful scene looks with Lauren showing a ‘S-Curve’ and the leaves pulling up the rear. Stunning!!!Lauren Bridal-42

And ladies and gentleman: the chosen image for Lauren’s wedding day.  If I had to caption this photo, it would be BROWN IN THE PARK.  Very glad Lauren chose this photo because it was one of my top 3.

Lauren Bridal-16

Well that sums up the great time that I had with Lauren.  Never been one seeking a lot of attention, she handled the pressure of the day very well. I couldn’t help but think of her as a toddler, barely knowing how to walk.  And right before my eyes I saw her dancing with her husband as Mrs. Lauren B. Ikenegbu. Nice!!!!

how did THAT work out for you?!?

This section is a recap of my happenings from the week before.  It could be all fitness related.  It could be all photography. It could be food related.  Who knows, I just know that I will tell you about it and let you know how that worked out for me.

I got to see Kemba Walker become the all-time leading scorer for the Charlotte Hornets, as they went down in defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers.  He scored “I AM THE LEADING SCORER” points in the closing seconds of the game. The crowd went wild!  He was embraced by LeBron James as the buzzer went off signaling the game’s end.  That was the least that he could do, after he obliviated the Hornets with 41 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists … but who was counting. #dunkcity

In preparation for ROAD RACE SEASON 2018, I logged a little less than 20 miles. The month of March was concluded with 101.3 miles.  Anytime I could do anything with “101”, it is honor of the Best Marching Band: The South Carolina State Marching 101 Band.  BAMMM!  I have a few races on the horizon, so it’s fine tuning time.  My daughter and I went to an Easter Egg Hunt. It was a very nice event, sponsored by GraceLife Church. The church members were very nice and welcoming.  Here is a collage of images taken on that day.
